The Himalayan Poppy is a rare flower. It only grows in a few regions the world. Pretty as they are rare, this poppy is the pride and joy at the Humboldt Botanical Garden.

This piece is 100% glass. I do not use paint in my work. All glass is hand cut and precisely fit together before being fired in the kiln. The stamen was added firing using both 1 mm glass threads (stringers) and crushed glass (frit). The platter was fired again to fuse the stamen. Petals are make from a beautiful transparent streaky glass which casts a lovely reflection. The background is opaline glass ... which magically plays with natural light. The platter edges are ground and polished to perfection.

This platter weighs almost 2.5 pounds.  It is 1/4" thick. Although it is 100% glass, it is not delicate. Treated with care it can last a lifetime.

Fused glass is never a perfect rectangle or perfect circle. By its very nature, measurements are approximate. This platter is approximately 14-1/2" x 6-3/4".  It is approximately 1-3/4" deep.
